in this scene, the girl said firmly that she would not survive being cut open to get the baby out ... laurie knew this and agreed - and she did indeed die within seconds after the first cut.

but why would this kill her instantly, without question?
doctors regularly cut out babies.

is it purely because she had no anaesthetic? the shock?

i realise that it would be agony but its only cutting through skin etc - no organs or anything 'important'.
she did not bleed to death, and was fine and healthy herself beforehand.

can someone explain this so me please, is there absolutely no way to survive an unplanned caesarian?

i have heard of people being stabbed in the belly and surviving and even of having their intestines etc fall out and still survive.

(and i know its only a tv show!)

thanks

The baby was cut out by a normal person not a doctor! She died from blood loss.

"she did not bleed to death,"
Actually, did she not die from a bullet in the head, technically!
Due to complications during labor, she eventually gives birth by Caesarean section (C-section) with the help of Maggie. This causes her to pass out and die from shock. Carl, who was present during the operation, shoots her to prevent re-animation.
Maybe he shot her and she was in a coma or just past out!

its possible mike - i didn't see them check her pulse, but then it was established beforehand that she would not survive it, and she died almost instantly.

the fact that maggie is not a doctor is irrelevant here - a cut is a cut no matter who does it ... all maggie did was cut her skin over the bump - she screamed, shook and then died.

so mamalynne you think it was just supposed to be shock?
they both were utterly certain that she would not survive it ... how would they know that?
i assume they never had any anaesthetic anyway - so hershel would not have been able to help either?
i can imagine complications later making her very ill - infection, wound not healing properly, lack of antibiotics and dressings etc

did the program writers just make it up then?

what would happen in reality if for some reason someone had to perform emergency caesarian with no anaesthetic?

people have much worse injuries and survive - limbs chopped off, spikes through us, massive gashes etc
joko....I cannot think of any good reason why someone would "die within seconds" following an incision without anaesthetic.

Neurogenic shock would be a rather a theoretical situation than realistic.

Clearly a made up situation in my opinion.
Can I point out that this is a program about a virus that have turned people into Zombies!!

So perhaps they are allowed more creative licence!

cheers sqad.

fgt - yes, i know ... thanks for pointing that out ...

but artistic license is not the question.
i wanted to know if there was any reason why death is a medical certainty under those circumstances, hence why i asked in B&S, not Media and TV.
