Hi all, the engine managment light comes on sometimes on my 2003 Terrano . Ive taken it to a couple of garages but both of them said that their computer wasn`t able to get any signals from the cars computer... the Nissan main dealers wanted £ 90 to plug in their computer so i passed on that. I`m based in Leicester if anyone can help?

Buy one of these and carry out the diagnostic interrogation yourself.

Admittedly it cannot do everything a main dealer’s laptop, loaded with the manufacturer’s software, can. But at £20 it should give a good indication of the engine fault.

The reason that the garages cannot detect the fault may be because not all faults are logged (stored) by the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics. If this is the case, it would suggest that the fault is minor in nature – and won’t cause serious damage, if not fixed.

Having the scanner to hand, will allow you to scan while the engine warning is illuminated.
When this happened on my previous car, the service manager told me to take it out and get the engine nicely hot on a motorway!
I did, the light went out and never came back on.
(If you do this, I am not responsible for a non-positive outcome!).
If you can poss look / check / the Connecting Plugs within the Engine area Syston, with a cold engine "SAFTEY" you might come accross a loose connection.
