At a busy junction the car in front of me pulled out to turn right into a busy road.he got so far across realised that he couldn't cross and reversed back into me.he got straight out of his car, apologised and offered to fix my car as soon as he had been paid as he used to work 'in the business'.I went home and advised my insurance of the accident.having heard nothing I chased him up at the end of the month, he now claims that I drove into him which is totally untrue, what can I do to prove my innocence? There were no witness' but he claims he has 1 which he has obviously manufactured
I'd report this conversation with him to your insurance company. TBH, I wouldn't have chased him up myself - that's what you pay your insurance company for - they would have written to him already if you gave them his details. You don't need to do anything except maintain your version of the story. Have you made a statement to the insurance company?
no....you inform your insurer! stop poking your nose in - that's what you pay them for! you can ask the pub to keep any cctv they may have, but could only apply for it under freedom of information IF it points to where the accident was. if you keep contacting people you will get into hot water.
You could ask them if they have a camera which shows that junction - they might not let you look at it, but they'd certainly let the police do so. You can ask them if they still have the tape for the day of your accident, and ask them not to wipe it or record over it until the matter's been investigated.
...and I agree with lcg - stop doing your own investigations with the third party, you can get yourself into all sorts of complications. Leave it to the professionals.
Mmm. Professionals. In my experience insurance companies take the easiest route. This has all the makings of a 50/50 settlement which won't help the OP.
Thankyou for your advice, I have the guys home address and mobile number but he is refusing to give me his insurance details.my husband has spoken to him on his mobile and I have seen the car that hit me at his address, what next?
"Is your car insurance "Third party fire and theft"?
Normally a "Fully Comprehensive" policy would deal with the complete matter without you ever needing to contact the other driver."
that would be fine if it was op's fault, but is saying she not at fault so should not go down that route
Do you not have to get a police report for an accident? Here in Zim we must have a police report if it involves another vehicle otherwise they are very difficult about paying. Also it is the law to report an accident.
Bit late, but others are right - leave it to your own insurer. By the way, if necessary you can find out someone else's insurance details by going to www.askmid.com. It'll cost you £4.00.
