Hello Divegirl thank you for your enquiry. I rang a vet that deals with birds and got the same advice as given on the form .I had to try the alo vera first as vet is 15 miles away . They could do some tests failng that . I think it will be a long process but slowly there are feathers showing on her chest and she seems to have stopped pulling them out. The alo vera may be the answer at last. Thank you again.
Brilliant news!
I've just bought an avian lamp for Dave. I was doing some reading on full spectrum lighting and its beneficial effects for our feathered friends.
It makes for an interesting read and there was some evidence that a good exposure to this type of light can help to reduce plucking too. Some say as long as the bird is getting plenty of calcium and vitamin D they don't need it. But I have taken the view that our birds don't get as much natural sun light as they should/could [not sure where you are but its around 8 degrees here today so Dave will not be getting outside again :0(]
Admittedly they're not particularly cheap but like my kids said to me... 'well you have these animals' lol

I think it was the calorie fairy that pinched your egg, to remind you that a large double yoker is in excess of 100 calories!! :-)
Can I just ask wendilla, how did you know it had a double yoke?
sadielady, you can buy eggs that are almost guaranteed double yokers, they are advertised as such, usually from specific breeds of hen at a particular time in their aging (usually youngish birds) they then go on to produce single yolk eggs.

SadieLady I have always got my eggs from the farm and they are huge . There might just be the odd one that isn't a double yoker. I am surprised that I have not found one with 3 .I would certainly take a pic of one if I did. It has been known. They are advertised as Jumbos. £2 65 a dozen.

Divegirl not much warmer here .I am in Leicestershire. I have just noted something you said about sunlight. My Hannes is not directly in front of the window as it gets so hot in my diningroom at the back. I will put her in front of window more often as her cage is easily wheeled round. So she can spells there when it is not too hot which is usually from 3 pm onwards when we do finally get any sun.
That may well do her good but from my understanding the uv...erm b [its either uva or uvb] rays can not penetrate glass, hence the need for a lamp.

Yes did think about that after I posted but I would put her where door is open. It would be too hot for her in front of the glass.
