I have been lucky enough to have won a Kindle Fire in a competition but it seems pretty alien to me.

I am going to play with it to work out how to use it but have a couple of questions

(1) my laptop doesn't always seem to detect my router (router on second floor and laptop on third floor) - why would this be?

(2) Can I get a dongle for my Kindle? I tried Googling Kindle dongles and really have no idea as to whether I can get and use one.

Thanks

that has to be the most enigmatic heading in answerbank
I love my kindle fire...your wireless connection should do it....if you look on Amazon if there is a dongle for kindle it will be there....it would need to be a micro connection....

I pondered over it before posting it :-)
found this on amazon
'it does have a usb port but the Kindle usb port is not configured as a usb host as far as I can determine and even if it were, there is no firmware to support peripherals. Plugging a 3g dongle into your kindle would be the equivalent of plugging a dongle into a mouse. '

Dotty - a furry mouse or a computer mouse?

It doesn't look promising.

murraymints - will check with Amazon tomorrow if my brain is awake.
Had a look in kindle store....no dongles....so you'll need to try your wireless ....swipe screen down from top...once you've unlocked it.....tap wireless ...find your router in list and connect....give me a shout if I can help you further 're kindle...
Looking through the Amazon Customer Forum, then being the bearer of bad news, the Kindle Fire hasn't got a usb host software, it needs a "host", i.e a PC to "dongle, but you could run it through a smartphone to attach to a wi-fi hotspot, or alternatively give up.

nibble - give up sounds okay

murray - have got the wi-fi linked up but it kept losing the signal. My MacBook does that too. I am going to go and huddle under the duvet with it (and young Frankie will lie purring beside me).

Thanks everyone
I read this as you asking if for permission to dongle your kindle in the fire :)

I have a Kindle Fire HD and have no need of a dongle to connect via WiFi Router to the internet....
If you have a wireless router already...should not be a problem to connect kindle..if there is a problem it's with your router....
Perhaps you need to move your router to a position where the signal can be picked up throughout the house.

(and its your turn at Scrabble)
