My fingernails break down the sides, just as they are getting long. They are quite tough (they don't bend easily) and brittle. Is there any special glue I can dab on, to stop the break going right across the nail? Superglue doesn't help.

This doesn't help with reference to glue, but you can get cream for your nails which help them not to break (sorry, i don't remember the names of any). Otherwise nail varnish is quite useful for strengthening nails/keeping them together (lots of coats).

I have found that since I stopped using varnish (especially the Hard as Nails type) my nails are actually growing better but they still break along the sides. I think you are right, I must use more cream to keep them supple. Thanks !
