I know it goes against the grain, but if people refrained from feeding and leaving scraps accessible to foxes they wouldn't breed so much and would eventually retract to the bush.
so they are doing as nature intended!!!

what is your point tambo?
how do you know it was a fox? and don't forget humans kill and eat more deer than any other predator in this country.
Just to emphasise Dr B's point - sweet little pet doggiewogs soon revert to ancestral type and often inflict this kind of damage. Tambo - do you know beyond doubt that a fox did this? Just a thought.
Flipping humans!

I wonder if we stopped feeding them they wouldn't breed so much and would retreat back into the trees? ;p
I've seen this type of mutilation before, it's often done deliberately by nasty people with so called "status dogs"
Question Author
piccy on my land y'day & NOT dogs. Fo xes go for smaller prey here & this is unusual.
Of course, we don't know whether a fox found the animal dead or alive. I have dumped deer, (killed, incidentally, by my dogs), on the farm and the foxes soon dismantled the corpse.
May not have been foxes that ate it.

If the deer had been hit by a vehicle and subsequently died there, any animals could have had a go at it. Foxes, badgers, rats, cats, crows etc
Nature is cruel by our standards. I have to go along with those who see this as natural, if unfortunate. At least it had half a rabbit before it decided not to overeat. Perhaps it'll bring a mate next kill and not waste any.
I believe it is a small deer, OG.
