I had a lung function test today results were good but I still get breathless when climbing stairs or walking uphill so what else would cause this? I was a smoker but gave up 3 years ago

Well, if the lung function tests were normal and if that included a normal chest X-Ray then we can exclude the lungs as a cause of your breathlessness.

The next thing that comes to mind is obesity...are you fat?

Then blood tests should exclude other causes.

Heart problems would cause shortness of breath, but that would show up on X-ray of chest and be associated with other symptoms.
Some years ago I found I had shortness of breath/dizziness when I was in a hurry. Went to the docs who referred me to a heart specialist, I was then whipped into hospital the same day for an aortic valve replacement. Hope this isn't your problem.
