I have had my pc for about a year and had several probs with it.Main prob is the not responding error,it occurs at anytime and in anything i am using at the time (programs or internet) Its driving me mad! Other probs are it seems to burble away to itself when no progs are running making it hard for me to access anything, progs are fine one day but not the next though nothing as changed.Java disables itself, burn a cd in nero with no probs then next time i use it it wont burn at all.Sometimes cd drive wont detect any discs. Its like the pc has a life of its own,i have had to format it 5 times and lost valuable data. Can anyone help before i put my foot through it.Thanks

since you have formated 5 times it seems like a hardware prob.when your pc is burbling away to itself use ctrl, alt delete to see what applications are running and on the performance tab to see your cpu usage as it may be trying to access something it can't,so in which case cpu usage would show at 100%.have you installed any new hardware lately or is your dvd rom drive noisey .

you could try pulling the ide lead out of your cd/dvd rom drive and see how it goes as the there may be an access prob with it,hence the trouble with nero.Or if you have 2 sticks of memory try removing one for a while and if no luck swap them over.if not move on to unplugging your rewriter as i feel it is a process of elimination i am afraid.

yellowjohn I was having probs before i put in dvd writer,my original cdrom drive would not detect discs at all for burning.I havent installed no new hardware recently. The whole computer is noisy not just the drive, on some occasions it has been so noisy ive had to switch it off.Someone told me that i may need more memory (got 256MB) or maybe probs with the fan. What you think?
