Our son's 54 reg Mini doesn't like second gear. Is this sounding like a new gear box and what is the likely cost?

Get the linkage checked before you start talking about a new box Miss. I doubt it's the box otherwise you would have trouble in other gears as well, is he Mechanical Minded? its easy enough to check the linkage.

Haha, jumping the gun a little, that would cost quite a bit, a bad clutch component can do that to a car
