Why is it that this Iranian diplomat cannot be extradited to the US on arms charges when just recently a British citizen Chris Tappin was extradited without a fuss on similar charges?

Apart from anything else his defence team could argue that he was entrapped by agent provocateurs
the answer to your question seems to be in the third paragraph of the story you linked to, should you get around to reading that far

You obviously haven't read the 2nd link jno which started a year ealier

///Tappins extradition followed an investigation which started in 2005///

rather than 2006 for the Iranian
'Lord Justice Moses ruled that Mr Tajik "has escaped extradition" because of a failure to "show reasonable cause" for delays in the long-running case'

Presumably in the other case they did show reasonable cause for any delay.
// The High Court heard at a hearing last month that the US government was asked in 2009 whether it wished to proceed with the extradition request.

It took them two and a half years to reply, which was judged to be too long.

There was no such delay in the Tappin case.

The answer is in the story in the link if you bother to read it.
Think I must be missing something. The reason he was not extradited was because the authorities could not show just cause. Seems pretty clear to me...

Seems like we're more frightened of upsetting the Iranians more than we are of upsetting the US. Thats a turn up for the books!
Its ironic that an American, Oliver North spent most of the 1980s selling arms to the Iranians, and now the US seem intent on extraditing businessmen and Diplomats for doing the same thing.

Hypocrisy on a grand scale.
North was found guilty and was sentenced to 1200 hours community Service.

I wonder if Mr Tappin will get similar leniency?
Unlikely Gromit. Just with with fining foreign Banks huge sums the Septics are clearly just out for themselves as they see it at the time.

No change really I suppose.
"Seems like we're more frightened of upsetting the Iranians more than we are of upsetting the US"

Seems like you're more interested in reading headlines and fitting them to your prejudices than reading the news and discovering the facts.
Was it Reagen or Poindexter who had the convenient amnesia when it came to remembering the Iran-Contra skulduggery?
