Unless you are serving it to a bunch of arrivistes there is much more kudos to be had from serving a bottle of good champagne from a lesser known producer. IMHO.

One Christmas, several years ago, Malcolm Gluck, wine critic for 'The Guardian', reported that Asda's Cava, previously priced at £4.99 a bottle, but reduced to £2.49 a bottle, was actually superior to then current Krug champagne costing £100.00 a bottle.
