We had a car written off about three/four years ago but I thought I had seen it around and about. Himself came home today and says he has seen it (I just thought the reg looked familiar but he knew it was exactly the same reg) - is there a free site where I can check this and how could it be driving around if it was written off? Thanks.

It depends on the condition and terms of the write off http://www.mpi.mb.ca/...e-offs/driveable.html
Sorry, I clicked 'send' too soon.

Put the vehicle details in and you'll see if the car is taxed.
When a vehicle is written off it just means it's "beyond economic repair". That's if taken to a garage for repair. If the damage is light, anyone can but the car and repair it. A DIY repair cost a lot less than a garage repair and can make economic sense. Depending on the severity of the damage it may need a government inspector to check the repairs.
To find out if your vehicle is still on the road, goto https://www.taxdisc.d.../intro?skin=directgov and click on "Vehicle Enquiry".
BTW you can also go to http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ to find out if the vehicle is insured.
I bought my car off the insurance company after it was written off, they just reduced the pay out. We owned a car repair business at the time.
Oh and it was panel damage that wrote the car off.

Thanks all, just had a look and it is taxed so someone must have bought it. I didn't realise you could buy written off cars, learn something new everyday!
There are entire web sites and dealers that sell nothing but 'written off ' cars.
