I just read the sequel, that was pretty good too.

The decision he makes at the end of it had me and two friends arguing over a bottle of wine well in to the early hours. (Mind, that might have been to do with the two other bottles of wine prior to the one that led to the early hours).

China, what's the sequel called? I remember the ending of the film, does it carry on from that?

It's called Moonlight Mile by Dennis Lehane. It is a sequel but set several years in the future. It's a pretty good read.
