Damn, I posted a long answer here and somehow or other it disappeared so I shall have to do it again. Right - I have bought a pillow type one and it arrived yesterday. It felt quite cool and so I took it to bed with me. I couldn't find anywhere to put it - it is a bit heavy and bulky somehow. Anyway I let it find its own place and this morning I discovered it all wrinkled where I had been lieing on it. It then felt quite warm so I suppose it must have taken some of the heat from my body. However, I don't think it made any appreciable difference to my comfort in the night so I don't think I will be buying anything bigger. Hope this helps you make a decision horseshoes.

i have a 3" topper and it's the best thing i ever bought. it's done my back and sleeping habits no end of good! x

Thanks both for your answers. You see it's so difficult; if your ead the Amazon recommendations, they differ too! It seems a lot to pay for something and it doesn't work! I am so DREADFULLY hot at night - I mean seriously like a furnace, although the actual "sweats" seem to have stopped. I just think that my heat would actually heat the cool pad up! I may well just stick with my noisy fan which I have on EVERY night. OH says it's like sleeping at Heathrow!

i haven't ever felt hot as a result of the topper. it has a cover and 2 sheets on top to ensure it doesn't affect us at night. this has always worked for us x

I bought a cooling pillow pad as I was having horrendous hot flushes at night.
It worked for a while, I found the cooling pad soon got to body temperature.
I liked it icy cold but it didn't last.

lcg -no I mean that perhaps MY heat would heat up the topper, just as funnygirl has. x

Would taking a HWB full of ice cold water help?

no I tried that ladybirder. It needs to be more "all-over".
