Why do the rubber hadrails move faster than the steps?

i always end up sliding down them, even before having a drink..
I've never noticed that.
You are right JD. I often experiment to see how far ahead of me my hand can get.
I`m easily amused I know, but my hand always arrives first.
To keep you on your toes - literally.

I find this and it is annoying when holding on, your arm ends up being outstretched out of it's socket.
I find it handy simply to hold the rail tight and watch others wondering why the handrail has stopped working!!
