On my walk home today, past a river, there was a little bird on the wall (little sparrow type thing) and obviously walking near it, it flew away and landed on a metal fence with the square gaps and trying to fly through it got stuck because it wasn't putting its wings down enough, not because it was too big or anything, i was with my friend who thought she would try to help and then it fell through the fence and then preceded to fly into a blacked out window of the police station thats next to the river behind the fence!
I know the bird obviously panicked while stuck in the fence but it seemed like a really stupid thing to do A) to first get stuck in the fence then B) to fly into the window
Could there have been a problem with this bird like a parasite affecting it or something to cause such odd un-bird-like behaviour as usually they are so graceful?
Thanks for any insight!
There was most likely something wrong with the bird as they are very adept at avoiding getting stuck, their reaction is a lot faster than ours. A sparrow can easily fly through a 4" gap in a fence by temporarily closing its wings in midair.
