foam on garden pond

our garden pond has floating islands of foam which seem to originate from the small cascade which we have. it gives the impression of detergent but how that
can happen is beyond me. Any ideas?

Do you have any mischievous teenagers next door with access to bottles of washing-up liquid ? Look for traces of soap between your nearest fence and the pool.
Chances are it's a build up of protein in the water or dissolved organic compounds (DOC's) usually caused by feeding too much high protein foods. The DOC's stick to the surface of the bubbles and gather at the surface as scum.

This happens a lot in marine aquaria and protein skimmers are employed to remove the waste DOC's
