woofgang - Yes, you're right. I was getting confused. Because it was so revolting, we used to call it Birds Cream Dropping. bluedolphin - Toast Toppers! It had the consistency of dog food. Do you remember that pate in red or green tubes? Le Parfait, I think it was called. The height of sophistication.
Tea at my nan's - a tin of salmon covered in vinegar, a couple of lettuce leaves, a hard boiled egg sliced in one of those lethal contraptions that I used to try and play a tune on, some white bread and butter with the crusts cut off, followed by a slice of battenburg and a Fancy or a marshmallow from M & S (remember the fancies had little sugar flowers on them).
and talking of my nan got me thinking about Newberry Fruits - don't know if they still make them, my teeth are aching just thinking about them.
And all vegetables had to be boiled to within an inch of their lives - but cooked with bicarb to keep them green. Yeeuuuccckkkkkk.
Those vile steak & kidney pies that you cooked in the tin after taking the lid off. Farola - in a yellow and green box with a smiling blonde child on the box. Though god knows why she was smiling. Tinned victoria plums in syrup served with custard made from powder.
Plumrose tinned risotto (yellow rice with ham and mushrooms), pork pie with egg in it, Spam spread, Sandwich spread, pink custard, bread and butter pudding, Gipsy creams, those triangular wafer biscuits covered in chocolate, orange juice in little bottles left on the doorstep by the milkman.
bluedolphin: that was a soda-stream, which I seem to remember an advert the other day for one on the TV!

What a decade!!
School Milk was one third of a pint not a quarter, and it was stopped by the Minister that should have been a foreboding of her attitudes, (M. Thatcher). I recall beer in 4 & 7 pint cans, Arctic Rolls, a fascination for Fresh baguettes.
Mint Cracknell - am I the only person who remembers this ? two thin pieces of flat chocolate covered green cracknel , came in a dark green wrapper I think ?
MMMmmmmm I loved Mint Cracknell. I wish I could still get some. I also liked Ice Breaker, Cherry Lips, proper Milky Ways (not the ones with the white filling) and Spangles (hope my dentist isnt reading this)
