My 17 month old springer bitch is healthy, fast, lively, and absolutely adorable in every way. She is fit, solid muscle and bone, not overweight though slightly small for a springer (19.8kg). We have a largish garden and she gets taken for a 1.5hr walk in the woods once a day.

We feed her on Winalot and Pedigree tinned dog food and she can eat four, sometime five, tins a day which I feed her on demand. I was taught that puppies should always have a full belly. Four tins (1.6kg) of dog food seems a lot. It works out £1.20 a day.

Does this sound right? Would a good quality dry food be cheaper (ie would she eat less for the same benefit?)

Thanks

Ours get approximately (each) 1.5kg raw fresh butchers meat a day, including green tripe, plus raw chicken carcasses and a regular feed of raw lamb bones a few additives for their omegas etc. they also get a little veg, 1 to 2 apples a day and for treats they have home made liver treats or dried sweet potato which they love.
Ankou - he doesn't usually get sachets. They were BOGOF...but he knows they're in there and just sits by the cupboard moaning.
PLEASE dont get the cheap stuff from the supermarket! Your dog will sh*t out most of it! Its not worth it in the long run, the better quality food is much more cost effective as they utilise more of it so you feed less.
Totally agree with Lankeela on that one!!
But RATTER, 3 lbs of fresh meat a day ! That would keep a couple of oap's going for a week :-)
Im not sure my dogs will be willing to share Khandro but if the OAP's want to take their chances!!

:-) Actually any OAP would be able to take the food from the dogs mouths with no problems at all, I may have something to say about it though!!
I wouldnt recomend Wagg as a good working dog dried food, it has the basics of nutritional value for working dogs but isnt fabulous quality.
If you want to feed her on dried food be sure to change slowly over the courseof 5-7 days to help to avoid intestinal problems with her, and be guided by her really. Dont forget she can also have food from your dinners too, so long as they are healthy. Our springer has a roast dinner with us a cpl of times a week and loves it :)
