I have a set of rechargable batteries. they do not last as long as purchesed batteries. However they seem to be lasting a shorter time.

How do I know when they are beyond redemption and must replace them?

It is importtant to totally discharge most rechargeable batteries, before recharging. Many rechargeable batteries develop a memory, so if you only run them half way down before recharging them on a regular basis, they will only run down to that mark and no further. Try putting them in a torch and leaving it on overnight to totally discharge them, before recharging them again. If they've got too bad, you will probably have to replace them.

Clever things these batteries, although I know that mostly the do run down before I recharge them.

Perhaps leaving the living in the switched on recharger when not in use does not help!
