Batteries for a Binatone digital phone?

Hello, I have a Binatone cordless digital phone which uses rechargable aaa batteries. These are starting to loose their power, ie after about 10 mins the handset goes dead. So I've bought some new rechargable batteries & although they work in other things they will not work at all in this phone. Any suggestions please as I thought all rechargable batteries were the same.
