Every now and then a message pops up wanting my network password. All the fields are completed and generally I can get rid of it by persistently clicking the 'OK' button.

Today I'm not having so much joy, why does this sporadically occur and how do I deal with it???

Plenty to go on here then ..

If Outlook Express check the Mail settings accounts .. and remove any accounts you no longer use.
Re-enter the pass into the relevant server tab. It should keep it.

Albags, my sincere apologies for not giving name, number and inside leg measurement of my ISP/Mail service/milkman; however I appreciate your response.

It is OE that I use and there are no extraneous accounts to be deleted. Password has been re-entered numerous times but to no avail.

Computers and the associated language is an anathema to me. I am more than competent using MS Office whilst everything is ticketyboo - when things go wrong I am stuffed - as are many. I can drive my car, but I cannot replace the head gasket, fortunately when I visit my garage and describe the symptoms they ask questions that help them narrow down the problem without demeaning the customer.
lol
Are you sure you are storing the account name and login pass correctly in the server tab?
If all fails .. follow this to make and test a new identity.
Then you can copy mailbox folder .dbx files across from old store to the new one once it works.
Wow Ecclescake...how rude of you!!
^^^^my thoughts exactly!^^^
I would be interested in the inside leg measurement of your ISP

if you are not too busy.. :)
i dont think eccles is real..... only time ive ever heard anyone say ticketyboo only on little house on't prairie

surely the garage would ask the make and model of car though eccles ;)
was not only duh
what in Heaven's name is demeaning about being asked which programmes you are using, eccles? There will be different responses, according to our individual setups.

It has spontaneously fixed itself.

I won't apologise to those of you who thought I was rude. My analogy of visiting the garage with my car was meant more broadly than a singular dig at Albags.

Not everyone on here is familiar with computer speak in the same way many don't know there head gasket from their bushes. A simple question that is incorrectly phrased due to an ignorance of the technology is often met with a 'well, gee thanks for all the info' response. I just don't think this is helpful, it might be second nature to some but many, many users of this site are not fully computer literate and do get in a muddle from time to time. A little more patience and an appreciation that we're not all Steve Jobs/Bill Gates would be appreciated.

Umm, Chelle, Cazz - you may have thought I was rude. Al acknowldeged my response with an 'LOL' and I *did* appreciate his answer - or what of it I could understand ;-)
" fortunately when I visit my garage and describe the symptoms they ask questions that help them narrow down the problem without demeaning the customer."

Presumably, when you visit your garage, you take your car with you, so that they don't need to ask you the make and model. We don't have that advantage on here.
If the problem is intermittent and clears up on it's own, it's going to be a problem with your Internet connection, or with your mail provider's server.
Many e-mail clients (OE included) have a habit of assuming a wrong password if they don't get the expected response from the server.
Yes I did think you were rude, Albags may have answered with a 'lol' but you again criticised his response. He did actually try to answer which is nore than some would.
You may not have all the info required when posting, i'm sure i wouldn't, you could ask what info you need to provide?

Once I found trying to log into Yahoo mail wasn't working I guessed the problem was at that end.

When I visit my garage the first question they ask me is the make and model of my car ;-)

I didn't mean to be rude, I don't know what/where to find information that might be helpful - assuming a response of 'it's a pink Dell laptop' isn't going to help I (and others) value a bit more direction.
then you can ask specifically what information is needed rather than resort to being offensive.

I didnt call you rude if you read back, I made a little joke.

Apologies Cazz you shouldn't have been lumped into a big Arctic Roll with Ummm and Chez.

Returning to your first para........I neither intended to be rude nor offensive; and I am surprised to be accused of being so.
You were rude.
Eccles - you obviously didn't follow the link in the Technology section titled 'How to post an effective technology question' !
