It could be the volume of "air" that displaces a litre of water at a guess.
Thanks seadogg. Must be a hell of a lot to displace two litres of water. My two nephews and my brother could easily do it, I reckon. They could fa*t for England.

You could also set light to it and measure the calorific value.
