Granddad or Grandad?

I have seen the spelling two ways as above, and I use the first when sending Xmas, birthday cards etc to my grand children.

It can be spelt either way but I would use the granddad spelling.
Either way for g'dad but double D for Granddaughter.
Chambers lists both.
Admit to Granny Grimbo. 9 years on my son is backtracking like mad as it embarrasses him when his children (at his instigation) call me that in public. I've learned to live with it. Does not bother me at all, quite endearing. I will however get my revenge at some point. Widowed so no grandfather spelling to dispute.
Course I am 2short :)

My 'orribles have Nana and Papa as well as a Gran and Grandad

(Well they use to have but only a Pape left now)
Welsh side of my family use Nan and Pop.
Anything else just sounds wrong 2short ;)
Nana and Bampy to our 5.
