I wanted a picture of a lawnmower printed from a paritcular web site and although it had a print this picture facility, my printer printed the lawnmower with a white background 5"X5", with the rest of the A4 sheet, printed plain black.

Since this must have been a huge drain on my printer's black cartridge, how can this be avoided in the future?

Try saving the picture to your PC first and then printing it.
If you place cursor over picture then right click, select the 'save image as' option.

Use 'print preview' to ensure it looks OK before printing.
or, just right-click and choose 'View image'
If your computer has Microsoft Works, you might have a Snipping Tool. You can use to "snip out" parts of a web page and thus print only what you want. Click Start button (bottom left of screen), then All Programs, then Accessories. From the list of Accessories click Snipping Tool and follow the instructions.

Thanks for your answers, but I would have thought that with there being a print option like all others I have used, they print the most print friendly version, whether it is a text document or a picture, why else do they include a print version?
Bookbinder, I have followed your insructions but can find no `Snipping Tool` in my Accessories. I am using Virgin Media.
