Immersion thermostat

I am a very capable DIYer and was wondering if it is easy enough to change a immersion heater thermostat

Easy peasy Dave........... especially for a Devon lad ...........
Switch off at the switch, and to be sure, off at the circuit breaker as well.
Take off cover
Unscrew the 2 wires attached to thermostat
Pull stat out
Reverse procedure
The Builder’s advice is concise – I would add that thermostats are available in differing lengths (depending on the length of the heating element).

Therefore I would recommend you remove the faulty thermostat and take it with you when purchasing a replacement at your local plumber’s merchant.

The stat size is marked/stamped on the immersion element body.
I would add you will need a spanner to remove the thermostat the best ones are like a big socket they are expensive to buy you can hire them quiet cheap if you buy a cheap ring spanner type you will have to be carefull how much force you use ,you can kink the copper tank.

can you tell me how to drain my heater tank, have turned off water supply and turned on all hot taps but tank has still not emptied and when I tried to remove the thermostat water started to pour out of the apperture. So had to replace old thermostat to stop water Any help greatly accepted
