Sorry in advance for the moaning but I need to get it off my chest! I have been on here before about my hubbys boss but he's excelled himself again in crapness. Yesterday he was picked up at 5.15am in a van with 5 seats (2 that are actually unsafe and were added by his boss not originally fitted in the van) and there were 6 of them in total. So he had to sit on the floor, all the way to the job which was over 2 hours drive away on the motorway. Great that isnt it? Thats on top of all of them smoking in the work van (boss included). Then 2 of them are dropped off at one site and the rest go on to another. My hubby had done all the work by 4.30pm and his site shut. They are then supposed to get picked up again at roughly the same time for the journey home. But the other lads had had a disaster and they ended up waiting for them for 4 hours. He didnt get home til after 10pm (all for no extra pay) and had to go back sitting on the floor again in a van full of smoke. Right thats rant over. So obviously if he took steps to report his boss the company would no longer exist and they would all be out of work again so he's stuck with it til he can get something else. Which isnt easy in construction at the moment. Can anyone else beat that or does he have the boss from hell?

No but he has a HNC in building studies, site management experience and is qualified to operate a crane!
Question Author
oh and of course his NVQ 3 in brickwork.
Tig, What type of crane? Are you far from Huddersfield?
Question Author
Do you know I have no idea! I will find out when he gets home which hopefully wont be too long. All I know is that he is working at the moment as a slinger/banksman if that makes any sense to you and he had to go on a day course to get this certificate so he would be qualified to operate the crane even though he previously had been doing it anyway. We live in Wakefield so its not far. I guess you have something in mind? The only thing is we have one car and I am now working as a childminder so I would suffer without it! It wouldnt be impossible but without sounding ungrateful he could only consider leaving his present job for something that did have better prospects (ie more money and permanent) He needs something that could offer him long term security unless he would be cutting off his nose to spite his face. As much as he is unhappy with his current boss the only positive thing is he gets picked up or has the van (even if he does sit on the floor sometimes lol)

Right he's home now and has informed me he doesnt actually operate a crane! I got that wrong doh. He got a IPAF to operate mewps and also pasma. I guess that makes sense to you and probably isnt what you need but thanks anyway! What do you do anyway?
Tig, I work for a construction company who are about to be building apartments/studfent accomodation in Huddersfield as well as other sites nationwide and we are constantly on the lok out for suitably qualified persons for various positions on sites. The jobs generally last 12-18 months depending on the size of the site. i was hoping I might have been able to have at least put his name into the hat. If I find out who the brickie gang are that are going to be working on site would you like me to let you know in case he might be able to get on with them on a permanent job?
Question Author
That would be fantastic thank you. As well as bricklaying he is qualified to be a site manager too (he worked for a company for 2 years as this). So he would be interested in anything like this too or brickwork supervisor/assistant site manager. Basically it all comes down to our finances and if he had to use our family car we couldnt afford to be worse off than now. I really appreciate this and can promise you if you found him something that was right he wouldnt let you down. His brickwork is a really high standard, won him quite a few awards and he is really reliable and hard working. Just needs someone to give him a chance again. He is sick of the hours he works now and so am I. He leaves the house at 5.15 and its now 7 and he still isnt home. Cant go on like this much longer, thanks again see what happens.
It sounds like a real cowboy outfit that your man works for. H & S would have a birthday with that company. I really hope welsh can help him get another place

Oh god so do I!

Oh and if it helps at all Welsh, he could easily get a good labourer as well!
Tig, Can you send me his cv and I will pass on to our labour director (e-mail to [email protected]) and let's take it from there. I have known and worked with the labour director for 30 odd years so I might be able to pull a string or two - but there is no guarantee. Check out our web site to see exactly what we do www.watkinjones.com
Looking in as an outsider the decision for me it is easy to say this but: Life or job? Job or life?
Sitting without a seat beat in any vehicle is asking for trouble and he does have a choice.

Thankfully I have a great manager, however, the actual boss leaves a lot to be desired but I don't have to work alongside her at all
Question Author
I have just done that for you Welsh, thanks.
Question Author
Hi again Welsh, just wondering if you recieved the email and CV ok?
