why do so many products used with food have awkward fiddley bits, grooves and dents etc, that make it very hard to clean?

id have thougt this was an important consideration when designing these items...?

items such as spatulas, tin openers, cutlery, etc etc...and today i noticed a milk carton with loads of interior bubbly dents that little deposits of milk got stuck in...surely these if left will dry up and be more likely to go off

i realise fresh milk is only kept for a few days but why put them there in the first place?...it certainly doesnt make the bottle look great.

it tedious having to run knives down grooves and edges of things to get dried food out as a sponge etc wont quite get in there...
i dont mind if the groove is essential to the deisign but most of them seem to be pointlessly added and serve no purpose...

any thoughts on this? does it annoy you too?

(NB: im not angry or losing any sleep over this, before i get told to chill etc)

i am just curious why so many items this seems to not have been considered.

Cheers

why do people buy mugs to narrow you cant reach into the bottom to clean ??
My wife would say that it's the result of things being designed by men who never have to clean anything.
And mugs with tiny finger holes that you can't get your finger in.
And sieves with rims for food to get trapped under.
Saucepan lids with indents above the lip on the inside - impossible to clean.
Yep...I was moaning about this yesterday. I've got a mini beer fridge with indented handles. They only way to clean it is with a cotton wall bud...

Also the seal around fridges...you's think they'd come up with a better design.
Wool* doh
IMO designers don't really design these days. Maybe they never did ? They have a mental picture of something that looks attractive, and go for it. Making it functional, well that's just boring, they didn't go to art school to actually work at being a professional designer, just to produce good looking 'cool' things 'cause that's creative.
Mr Boo bought me a mug, in the shape of a love heart- can i drink out of it? Can I buggery!

Now that's a useless design!
OG...

The problem is that half the time designers shouldn't be designing these things at all, engineers should.
Like keyboards ...
This one goes in the washing machine now. : )
Remember the Fiat Strada advert tho?!
Never mind awkward to clean stuff... one of my pet kitchen hates is saucepans with metal handles and lids. Metal conducts heat making the lid or pan impossible to pick up from the cooker without hand protection. Were the designers even thinking when they designed them?
We keep a small nail brush to scrub most awkward items like forks tines.
I'm curious why people don't consider this themselves before purchase

shouldnt have to...it should be a given that food handling utensils should be hygienic...not bacteria harbourers...
