A. You can use your debit card to put money into their 'bank' i.e. your betting account by quick transfer, a minimum of £5.00 I believe
B. You have to give them your debit card details, but they will only take the money that is in your betting account, they don't take the money for the bet from your card

You have to register your card details and deposit an amount to bet with (usually £5 or £10 minimum deposit). You bet with this sum (plus any possible winnings you may accrue), and whenever necessary add more funds to bet with.
Any winnings can be withdrawn from your account (back onto your card) at any time (usually takes 3/4 working days before you receive it).
Minimum amounts vary depending on the type of bet you are doing and varies from bookmaker to bookmaker.
I use Bet 365 as I find their odds among the best, and they guarantee the odds on any race in which you take an early price. i.e. if you take 5/1 as an early price and your selection returns at odds of 6/1 Bet 365 will settle the bet at the higher odds.
I also use Betfair a lot but that is a more specialist site, where you can not only bet on horses/teams to win but also to lose, and as someone has already stated there is a £2 minimum stake on Betfair. Odds are generally better on Befair than with traditional bookies because you are not betting with a bookie as such, but with other punters.

Carefully read the terms of the free bets which bookie offer to entice you to set up an account with them.
It's usually along the lines of 'they will match the amount of however much your first bet is with them' i.e. if your first bet is a fiver they will give you a fiver free bet

Dont be misled into thinking that as soon as you open an account, you will have £200 of the bookies money to bet with. This is the way it usually works -- if you deposit £50 to open an account, the bookie will also deposit £50 into the account, £100 = £100 etc.
If you have never used a online bookie, or used a phone account before, it is advisable to be wary, as it is so easy to place a bet online that you may not have done, if you had to go to the betting shop.

It's not your deposit that the bookie will match it's your first bet amount.......otherwise someone could deposit £200 into their account, have it matched with the bookies £200 and then immediately withdraw £400 from their account meaning they had earned the easiest £200 of their life!

Obviously, my wording regarding this matter could have been better,regarding the first stake, i.e. the word 'deposit ' replaced by 'stake', but the outcome is that if you open an account, the bookie will match - or better your opening stake.
Mic , please accept my apology if I misled you in any way. I'm quite sure that you wouldn't think that you could place £200 in an account with a bookie and take £400 out the next day.
