human hair dye contains chemicals that are potentially lethal to cats either by absorbtion through the skin or ingestion as the animal grooms itself. Even pet dyes are mildly toxic to animals - stupid idea to dye a pet anyway - can't see whoever did it takinf the trouble to go to a groomer and get it done hence my question.

thanks bobbisox - had made my last post beofre reading you very full replt - glad to know it's not harmful. thank you
Don't get me wrong Bobbi I don't condone this sort of thing, I'm a cat lover myself. What I'm wondering is HOW they managed to do it, Knowing my cat she would have scratched and bitten her way out of it. So makes me think they could have sedated it.
What do you think?

it's very likely Jem, I hope the cat did bite and scratch them but I think the sedation was more likely
I so want to home this kitty. She's such a pretty thing ignoring the fact that she is pink of course.
Would like to see him put some dye on these cats

I agree with Jemisa - maybe they should check the local hospitals for people with serious wounds to their hands and arms. Cats can be pretty ferocious when they feel like it.

The wheelie bin woman stuck the cat in the bin as a spur of the moment act. She was stupid and it was a weird thing to do.

But whoever did this thought it through and took time to get a cat that could be dyed, my little Princess Merlin is all black and it would be pointless dying her, bought the dye and then dyed and dumped her. Where do these people come from?

During the week there was a story about somebody microwaving a hamster.

People doing these sort of things should be prevented from breeding - if they do these things to animals what harm could they do to their own children?
in grooming parlours, they use food dyes
I saw this, this morning, and I wondered if they'd used that hair colouring you can just paint on for short-term effect - they carefully avoided her eyes and mouth. You're right, in the US people stupidly dye their pets to match their outfits! Regarding doing it - my cats love to be groomed, they might not notice if there was dye being applied whilst being brushed - but if it was sprayed on, they'd have a blue fit.
Was sprayed on -looked at Dr Filths link at beginning of thread.
Doesnt matter the whys and wherenots -can you imagine the wee souls distress -i have just managed to get my cat back to normal after very tender nursing after a dog went him and only frightened him!
It affects them emotionally -big difference than if they are (stupidly) dyed at a parlour.
One of my ex-colleauges sprayed her cat with the cross of St George for the world cup....the bloody cat had cost her over £1000 ..........
They must have a want about them.....
