Post office by Charlie Bukowski
the Life of Pi - though someone told me it has already been made into a film. Anyone know for sure?

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, and excitingly for me, it is to be made into a film!!! And even better the film rights have been bought by Johnny Depp - yum! Absolutely fantastic book, and a true story too. I'd definately reccommend anyone to read it!

I agree with Life of Pi too, saw somewhere on the net that this was due for release in 2006...

his dark materials trilogy by philip pullman
If it would work (which I never think they do) then any of the Vorkosigan series On the other hand I really wish they hadnt made the Bourne identity into a film it was quite possibly the worst film ever and I love the 3 books
Porno by Irvine Welsh

the secret dreamworld of a shopaholic- sophie kinsella

"Money" by Martin Amis. I would have Ray Winstone playing the main character.

High Society by Ben Elton; or a tougher one: The Aeneid by Virgil.

Two great but completely different stories.

I also heard that Phil Pullman's Dark Materials is being made in to a film at the mo as well.

Have to agree with Mattk - Dark Materials Trilogy (Philip Pullman) would make a great film.

Yeah, I heard Dark Materials is on the cards too.

I know they're making the Da Vinci Code, but would much prefer for them to have made Angels and Demons First.

Also Carrie's War by Nina Bawden.

Life of Pi has been bought and is in pre-production. I seem to think that Tom Hanks may be involved, though I could be confused. HDM was going quite well, but the director recently left the project as he felt he wasn't experienced enpough with big budget SFX movies, and so it's all gone a bit quiet.

Most of the books I'd like to see adaptations for have either been announced, or are too big to fit into one movie :-(. The first (of many) that springs to mind is "At the Mountains of Madness" by HP Lovecraft, which Guillermo del Toro was supposed to be working on.

I would like to see Lovely Bones made into a book....or maybe After You'd Gone by Maggie O'Farrell - I like a good weepie and if a book can make you cry like that then the film is gonna be heart wrenching!

I meant lovely bones made into a 'film' incase you hadnt gathered!

little gem: Peter Jackson has an option on TLB and is likely to make it after "King Kong".
