i thought i would ask you good folks some advice as you have all been sound advisors to me in the past. here's my dilemma: i currently live in a two up two down with hubby, 17 yr old son and three cats, whom i love dearly (my surrogate babies). this morning, i recieved a letter from the local council with the offer of housing after three years of being on the list (and not really thinking about it much). anyway, this new pad is brand new, second floor, two bed....but i can't take my cats. hubby thinks i am mad to refuse, but i like where i live, the fact that it is a house and my kitties have the freedom of several hundred yards of back gardens. we have been here for ten years and it feels like home, but we are all torn with different opinions of what to do. if this was you, what would you do? all opinions welcomed...x

tell hubby you are not against moving but you need a house with a garden so you have your own space ,you have not got to take the first place the council offer you there will be others
I'm going with what you wrote

'its a house, several hundred yards of back gardens, been there for 10 years, like where i live....feels like home'.....

if i was you , i would stay where i was - you wont get any of the above with a 2nd floor flat and no cats....

send the hubby and the son to live in the flat, you stay where you are - i'm betting they will soon come back...lol
I've never lived in a flat but for some reason I wouldn't fancy it, especially when you don't know what the neighbours will be like. I loved my little terraced house and would still live there if the stairs hadn't got too much for my arthritis.
There soon won't be any security in council/HA tenancies beyone a 5 or ten year agreement if this government gets their way. As soon as your son left home they would insist you moved again into a 1 bedroomed place.
Think you would be wise to stay where you are--having your own outside space is a bonus.
If it aint broke don't fix it
Frying pan and fire
Grass greener other side of fence
Don't know what we'll miss 'til we've lost it.

I expect there are a lot more but you'll get my drift
You don't want to live in a flat - Admit it.

After a while the Council will offer you something else. Stay put for now and keep hold of your sanity.
Good Luck, for whatever you choose. - - Jem

From what Daffy says....until the rule comes in, if it does, anyone who gets a council house before it will be able to stay.
