My mum didnt give me a middle name and the youngest child such as myself was always given the first name of the maternal grandmother... anyway, now my beloved grandmother has passed at the ripe age of 91, god love her! I would like to have my grandmothers name as a middle name as it should have been given to me anyway.
Do I have to go through Deed Poll just to add a middle name?
yes by deed poll but also bank /credit cards/ drivers licence/all bills etc etc and the list goes on.my friend added a extra name and it was for ever to sort out all the forms
If you just want to have it as your middle name you can just do it. I have two middle names, one given at birth and the other I just chose on a whim. You don't have to give all your names on bank accounts etc so if you just want to "know" you have your Gran's name then you don't have to change anything. It can't be added to your birth certificate.
I agree with woofgang, you can call yourself anything you like on a day to day basis just as long as your correct names are given for official purposes. It works the other way too, I have 2 middle names & I always hated one of them so never ever mentioned it unless I had to...now I love it & make a point of using it.
Now I'm going to try & find out what your chosen name is woofy :o)
yes i did wonder how a family would "know" who the youngest was unless both parents were sterilised immediately after the birth....even harder to know before reliable birth control, thus a difficult tradition to uphold.
Though nobody ever calls me by my middle name I always use it in my signature I started doing this when I was a lad to seperate my mail from my fathers as we shared names, we had no mobile phones in those days and I didn't want dad finding out any of my guilty secrets
I definately know I was always going to be the youngest as my mum only wanted 4 children and I was the 5th... is also why she gave me up at birth and my grandmother brought me up...
My nans was Betsy.. and I think thats an awesome middle name to have, plus I loved her sooo much
I was christened with a middle name, but my middle name was not registered so I always feel I shouldn't use it. Both my grandmothers were called Harriet, so I'm glad my parents didn't bless me with that.
