In the Another Knife Death in London question, sandyRoe said life in prison was grim , and ummmmm said that for Cat A prisoners life was not pleasant .
Which is fair comment if you know that is the case and despite the media saying the opposite . However when I asked them in what way it was grim and not pleasant I didn't get an answer .

I therefore went to this site which tells you in detail what life is like in prison. Page 49 onwards is quite an eye opener.and apart from the loss of liberty I not surprised many re-offend.
I can well imagine many people in our society would love to have the same life style.

Is life as good as set out in the document or are we being misinformed ?

An ex-prisoner told me the worst thing which he could not tolerate was that there was never, ever silence. Shouting, banging, talking 24/7.
"Page 49 onwards....." ??? Some of us have lives, you know!

Prison is supposed to be grim - if it was up to me they would lie on a mattress in a rat-infested hole lol
I worked in an open prison for a while, couldnt believe my eyes, apart from loss of freedom (to a degree) they had a better life than I had, I was disgusted.
Even had their own gym and had days out on mountain bikes! gym used to cost me £30 a month For Funks Sake and I didnt have a bike.
:-)
Read Jeffery Archer`s prison diaries. I know he`s not everyone`s cup of tea but his books gave a good insight into every day prison life.
Would be interested to know any statistics that show the UK level of crime compared to other European countries. Then compare it to each countries prison system.
I went to visit someone in prison once. Said person was on remand. I have never felt so violated. Prison officers hand in my mouth. Feeling my nether regions. I will never go again no matter who is inside.

Didn't you go to the site EDDIES ?
Sterios TVs Computers Electronic Games, in their cells .Spend up to £25 a week in shop also by Mail Orrder
Choose their own meals . Vegetarians and Special Diets catered for. Three baths a wek , PE , Sport, Hobbies, . Free Medication , Dental and Eye care . And EDDIES that is for all catagories. Cat C are also given keys to their cells . Apart from liberty they are better off than many of us. Maybe noise is a problem hc4361 but so is it on many estates.
i agree with modeller there hc4361
i had the misfortune to spend two days in a council tower block a while ago
" Shouting, banging, talking 24/7"..... dont quote the prison noise to me.
I have allways said that if anything happened to my husband and i couldn't manage {money etc.}i would rob a bank or something to get into prison.I'd get fed,be warm and by the sound of it a comfortable life.it would have to be about money.you get longer sentences with that
If prison was more of a deterent then far less would re-offend (or even think of first time offending)

They should have a bed in a bare cell with a p1$$ pot in the corner, be locked up 23½ hours a day with a ½ hours exercise

.......but no it's a holiday camp with DVD's and playstations
Did anyone see that British civilian who is slammed up awaiting trial in Afghanistan?

He was lead around shackled in hand and leg irons.

If that had been a prisoner in our jails, there would be almighty shouts about his civil liberties.
I went out yesterday.....

I've read many many prison books. Many Cat A'a lock the prisoners up for 23 hours a day. You share a cell with a stranger and have to perform your bodily functions within feet of them. The risk of violence is huge.

My cousin was in a cat B....he had a telly in his room and beside meals he was in his cell 22 hours a day...
