Can anyone here remember where they were on the day we WON the World Cup in 1966?
Or were they not even a twinkle in their dads eye??

Get over it. That's why no one wants to see england win it cos they never shut up about it.
shove off flobadob.....why shouldn't we relish our successes ?

Are you this generation who are satisfied with 'doing your best' rather than winning?
It just sounds really sad constantly going on about 1966 until the next time. By the way it was offside.
It was my wedding day and although neither of us like football, we watched the game in a hotel in Bournemouth. Its the only world cup game I've ever watched!
We were watching the match on our black and white telly. I proposed to my girlfriend after the match. We were married in the October of that year. We're still married. 2 kids and 3 grandkids.

It was an afternoon match, I remember my dad giving my mum a £1 to take us kids shopping, While we were out we knew when all Englands goals were scored there was a huge roar echoing around the shops.as people listened to their radio's.
I watched it with my family, I was nearly 11, we were really into football, Dad was the manager of a local team and my brother was a player, every weekend was footie mad and so it was a huge event for us, I've been kean on the World Cup ever since, in 1970 it was brilliant but one year England didn;t qualify which was dire.
I remember it well, my younger brother was/is a huge footie fan, and we sat in the living room and watched it on the TV. I was old enough to have left school and be at work (unlike all you young things) and a couple of weeks later, I made sure I was in the queue in the Post Office to buy a couple of the rationed England Winners postage stamps. They'd issued a series of 3 stamps to mark our hosting of the world cup that year, then overprinted the 4d one with the words "England Winners". Have a look here http://www.stamp-shop...england-winners.html. I've still got them somewhere...
(If a shilling converted into a 5p in 1971, and there were 12 pennies in a shilling, that means that in 1966 it cost about 1.5p to post a letter !)
