.......I have just purchased a car which has recently had a new windscreen fitted

Two strips of approx 10" sticky tape have been stuck on the top of the windscreen, overlapping onto the roof

Previous owner says tape was left on too long and since it was taken off there are two strips of sticky residue left on the windscreen and roof

What can I safely use to remove the sticky residue, without damaging the paintwork/glass?

WD40
nail varnish remover
Kim and Aggie swear by mayonnaise to lift sticky stuff, never tried it but they say it works!
Methylated spirits
white spirit
petrol.

I suggest wax polishing the area after using any of these solvents
