I am planning a round the world trip, but not sure where to go.  Australia and Thailand are my obvious choices, but where next?  Also is it best to by a 'book of flight tickets' before i go, or should i do it as i go along?  I'm planning to go for a year.  Oh, how much can i expect this whole trip to cost per person?  would rooms be charged per room or per person?  Any tips and recommendations are most welcome!  Thank you!!

Several major airlines do round the world tickets.  You have to travel in one constant direction and the number of stops is usually limited [but not the time spent there].  A typical itinerary might be London>Singapore>Hong Kong>Sydney>Auckland>Hawaii>Los Angeles>New York>London.  It's a while since I worked in travel but I would guess around 900 for your ticket nowadays.  You can visit airline sites and get a quote.

Hotels do tend to be charged per room. You can book in advance or buy vouchers and ring when you arrive locally to choose a particular accommodation of the grade purchased. That's good value in Oz.  I'd allow at least the equivalent of 40 per room per night for roughly three star accommodation.

trailfinders are good at this sort of thing, though obviously it helps if you have some idea of where you want to go, and what level you want to aim at. If you're looking to rough it, you could see some of Africa and South America and maybe south Asia (eg India) as well as the sort of itinerary Chinajan suggests.  Now would be a good time to draw up a list of the 20 things you've always wanted to see. Taj Mahal? Niagara? Sydney Opera House? Mandalay? Serengeti? You decide.

you have to see egypt - luxor and cairo are my tips.

and don't forget to see some of eastern europe - prague, budapest, st.petersburg

lucky ******.

ive just booked a flight with www.travelbag.co.uk flying from manchester to bangkok then flying from singapore to perth (getting train from thailand to singapore) then brisbane to LA (driving accross australia) then flight from new-york to manchester (getting train accross USA) it cost 1060 including tax... If u fancied stopping off at new zealand fiji and hawaii the price is appx 1450 including tax... p.s im flying out in nov and arrive home in feb but if i wanted to i could take upto 12 months to do the trip and it would cost the same

Take a look at www.ccwetravel.com/6443967 to see how you can save with all major travel companies. It takes a little effort but is well worth it and will save you lots of pounds.
