The question below regarding wearing of medals reminded me of the news item yesterday. They gave a medal to a dog.

Admittedly, this sniffer dog had detected roadside bombs and had done some really great work, but giving a medal to a dog is just stupid isn't it?

It's a mark of respect. And if the dog died, its puppies should wear them in its honour.
If it was a chocolate medal and you really disliked dogs I could see some advantages.

I think I'll go post in Animals & NAture now.
and they get statues

"Winkie, a pigeon that flew 129 miles with her wings clogged with oil to save a downed bomber crew."

A heroic pigeon?
Pre-marinaded pigeon........ideal for barbie.
I'm really not sure the dog understands any of it.

I think if we wanted to show our respect for it, the queen should've approached it and gone 'GOOD BOY!' and start rubbing it's belly. But I think the moment's kind of passed.
Ah! The satirical comedians on this site, do they think they are really funny? This animal although only a dog, is still is worth anyone of them. I wonder how many lives they have saved?

What is wrong with him getting a medal, doesn't a horse get a rosette for jumping over a few fences or those dogs at Crufts for looking nice?
Sorry but I think its silly - by all means give them a Bob Martin but a medal is madness
Barking mad?
It takes your mind off awarding posthumus medals to dead soldiers or those that have had their limbs blown off.
