Thought any cat lovers (like me), would like to read this article.

I read it this morning, tears rolling down my face:

You thought right, smudge. Can't vouch for any cat lover, of course. Or Joanna lover. But a sublime combo for the ITV documentary! Can't wait for that.

The Maneki Neko she mentions is actually a "beckoning cat" literally, and is to be seen all over Japan depicted with a cute beckoning gesture.

And what about this for come-hithering? When I was a student in Japan, my room looked straight out on to the retaining wall of a neighbouring back garden. The neighbourhood cats used this wall and the strip of garden beyond it as a stage for porn shows.

The toms formed an orderly queue along the top of the wall and took turns with a queen in heat. They of course were part of the show: they scorned to watch it themselves, affecting disdain, looking around for more interesting things to look at, grooming themselves etc.

I did not imagine this: it was at very close quarters. Somehow I don't think cats anywhere else would put on such a well-disciplined show.

BTW your link is not working. Here it is again:

The link's working perfectly well for me & someone else close by mallam, but thanks anyway.

I can't wait to watch this documentary either, as I enjoy watching anything to do with domesticated or wild cats - as long as they're not ripping some poor unsuspecting animal to death tho'! I know it's natural, but I have to look away!

I've always liked JL & particularly enjoyed watching 'The Land of the Northern Lights' doc' a few months ago.
Hi smudge - the link worked for me - what a brilliant read - it always gives me a new respect for someone when I find out they like cats. We have had cats for all our married life and they are as much a part of our household as any of us. I am cat mad literally so thanks for posting !

P.S. It was her personal story of having to leave her cat for six month that got to me.
Hi smudge,
Yes, I also read that story yesterday. Pulls at the heart it does. I love all animals, despite the user name I have, lol and looked after a feral cat at work for 20 years. Broke my heart when I lost her.
Looking forward to that programme too. Like to add I know Joannna Lumley as she is nice a person when you meet her .
By the way, your link is working smudge. xxx
Yes Ive reconstructed what happened to your link. It's very long, and got truncated on the main page, which was where I stupidly tried to click it. I had to google it. Of course the system which truncates the questions in the first place is stupid too. I never assumed there was anything wrong with your posting. AB tried to lure me back with promises of this site being less of a shambles, which is why I have dipped a toe in again.

And how could anyone have failed to enjoy "The Land of the Northern Lights"? Almost too good a vehicle for JL's breathless charm! Like her book "Stare Back and Smile". Have you read that?

My reminiscences on the manekineko and the cats' porn show seem to have fallen flat. Is it perhaps old hat that cats the world over wait their turn in such an orderly fashion?
sunday eve looks not too bad for tv,for a change,2 animal progs that actualt don't clash.bigs & me'll have 2 hours of not fighting over remote control or endless channel hopping!

Back again - sorry I took so long cruella, mallam & petal.

I've always found JL fascinating & very interesting. I have some of her spoken word tapes & her voice always relaxes me & takes me into another world.

Really looking forward to Sunday nights viewing & seeing the different cats in it.

Bye all. -xx-
