Normal blood sugar levels are between 4 and 7. I don't think they vary much regarding age and gender but not absolutely certain on this.

raguvun the best thing to do is chat with your Doctor as there maybe other circumstances to be taken into account, and a Doctor is the best person to understand blood test results.

The figures that have been mentioned by chompu may not be 100%.. In my health authority the levels were given as 4-6. 1 point doesn't sound a lot but can mean the difference between being diagnosed diabetic or not.

It can also depend on what time of the day the test was taken and whether it was a fasting blood test or a random one.

I am sorry corkyb but my figures are 100% correct. I deal with this every day, working as a first aider in a large college. The recommended tolerance is 4 to 7 but have seen it quoted as 4 to 9.

It depends on the units used. In the UK we use mmol/litre - the US uses milligrams per decilitre. The reading for each unit would be very different for the same blood sample.

As a rough guide, before meals your sugar level should be between 4 and 7 mmol/Litre. Two hours after a meal the level should be between 7 and 10 mmol/Litre.

I'm diabetic, so I know what I have to aim for when testing my own blood!
