What does this MEAN? Is there a good consumer website which lists what is GOOD, what is BAD and WHAT TO EXPECT in this jargon. I hate looking at electronics because I just end up picking the nicest looking machine.

Can anyone tell me of a site where people rate the good and bad and expensive-to-use and easily-breaking printers so I can find the one I want.

DPI (dots per inch).Basically, the higher the number, the better the print quality.

There a probably loads of Websites out there that can give you advice.Try typing something like 'DPI advice' into a search engine.

for the average user, go for an epson. i've never had any trouble ever with them, and they give great quality.

C86 or R300 or something like that would be a great choice (latter is great if you have a digital camera: comes with ports to plug your card straight into the printer).

as for DPI.. Dots Per Inch. so as you can imagine, if you're printing a photo out and you have 1 DPI, this means that each inch of the photo has 1 dot of colour on it.. its not going to be a photo!! 10 DPI has 10 dots of colour on it, so it'll be more clear. 100 DPI will be even clearer again, etc. the higher the better, but the really high values will only be of use to you if you print large pictures on A3 size or the like.
