Can I drive my car bare footed? I hate wearing shoes in the car and have nearly always drove bare footed but someone told me its against the law!!!!! surely not!

gradual braking barefooted is okay but I don't think I'd like to try an emergency stop...
Breaking would be difficult barefoot... esp. when chewing on your big toe nail at the time...

I really dont understand why sturdy footwear would make me a safer driver? i bet my reactions r a lot faster than those who choose to wear heels or shoes with no tread especially if its been raining! how many times have you got into a car with wet footwear and felt your foot slip on the pedals? i bet if people are honest the answer who be quite a lot!
