Hi
I am due to go on a short break within the UK to Devon. This is in 3 days time. I have travel insurance.
I have sprained my wrist & am unable to drive. I have two children & a dog, so am unable to use public transport for obvious reasons!
If I were to cancel, is this reason covered.....a spraied wrist? It says illness or injury etc but is sprained wrist a good enough reason to get my money back. The break cost 645-which I can not afford to loose & wish to go away but there is no way I could drive 2.5 hour journey with this injury?

I need help with this please......I have already asked insurance they just say you need to make a claim to find out, they cant say at this stage! Is it likely I would get my money back??????
You really need to check with the company you made the booking with. They may allow you to postpone your holiday for a later date.

G oto a doctor. See if the doctor will provide you with a certificate confirming it is not possible for vyou to drive.

I would not let it stop me. With a bound wrist it would be OK.

Or go by train.

I really want to go on this break-I need it to say the least! I tried driving earlier & its too painful when I change gears. I feel its irresponsible to drive a 3 hr drive with two children with a dodgy wrist -I could have an accident. I cant go by train with luggage, a dog on a lead & two children........BUT would the INSURANCE Company EXPECT me to do this??? Thats what I need to know......or would a dr's note stating unfit to drive be sufficient???

I cant afford to loose the money!

Also-I have asked the holiday firm if they will postpone. NO basically....
Have you not got a close friend who would take you all... for some payment, of course?

Yogasun......thanks for idea but my brother is in spain right now & my mum doesnt drive! My friend is on her honeymoon & there is no one else I can ask. I had thought of that......x
Oh dear. I live in Devon and didn't want to think of you missing out on a trip here. I would have thought the insurance would cover you but I get your point about the fact that they might expect you to take the train. If you are faced with losing 645 it would be preferable to go mad and have a taxi, I know it would be pricey but worth a quote.

This is horrible! I soooooooooo want to go. I have been to Devon many times-hence thats where I chose to go again! Its lovely there!!! Taxi is a good idea but there is no way I can afford the cost! Thank you anyway. What I need to know is......is it likely the insurance would say it doesnt matter you cant drive you could get a train! Can I really be expected to get a train, with a dog, two children, luggage with only one useable hand???? If I got proof from my doctor - a certificate, saying unfit to drive, would the claim be successful????
The only way is to ring the helpline of the insurance company and get a definitive answer as to whether you will be covered as train trip would be impractical, there is just no other way round it. Good luck.

Thank you Yogasun......I'll just have to hope I am covered for this. I have asked but they just say I have to cancel first then make a claim-which is a lengthy process....only then will I know......Nightmare. You are lucky to live in Devon!! Thanks again.
I've only just seen this, and hope your arm's feeling a bit better. A sprain often improves with rest and strapping in just a few days. Are you sure it won't be better enough for you to drive when you're due to go?
Question Author
Thanks for all your replies. Unfortunately, my wrist feels worse today but yes it could well be ok to drive for Monday......do I ring & cancel now or risk & wait and see.........
Did you go? Hope you enjoy yourselves.
Question Author
No we didnt. :-( We were all very sad!!! Claim is currently processing......will let you know if i got the money back???!!!!!
