lol Chuck...I've got that. Kaspersky 2009 complete protection.

It's not installed though and I'm not sure where it came from.

Do I have to uninstall Norton first and can I put Kaspersky 2009 on both the lappy and the desk top?
It wouldn't have come from anywhere dodgy btw. OH's cousin works at PC world so he prob got it cheap.
Yes, you must only ever have one piece of anti virus software installed at a time (note anti-virus and anti-spyware are different things, it's normally OK to have more than one anti-spyware program installed)

you also can't just uninstall norton the normal way, you need the norton removal tool.

As you have a little time until Norton expires keep an eye on the computer mags when you go shopping, you may find one with a free or reduced price version of kaspersky on the cover CD.
Cheers Chuck. I'm uninstalling Norton now :-)

Thanks chuck.......but what do you reckon to my current problem......should I ignore the Norton warning?
personally, yes I would.

but I wouldn't like to put my name to a recommendation to anyone else to just ignore a security warning.

are there any more details on the warning message?
Kaspersky is definitely one of the better security suites out there if you feel you must spend money to feel safe. Although personally, when I tried it, I found that the interface, though very informative, would be somewhat daunting to a novice who didn't understand how to interpret much of it.

On the firewall front, I would only recommend ZoneAlarm or another 3rd party firewall if you use file sharing programs. If you use the internet just to surf, play simple flash games and email, then the in-built ones in XP/Vista/7 are perfectly adequate and far far less intrusive.

It is of course, personal preference. I just think that for it's overkill for a lot of users though. You can get multiple warnings in any given session of use whilst performing basic tasks. The point at which the protection is arguably more annoying or bothersome than what it's protecting you from is where I start questioning it's usability.

Hi Chuck.....sorry had to go out

Malicious script detected
High Risk

Your computer is halted and needs to do something about this script

Object : FileSystem Object
Activity : OpenTextFile
File : MSN6.EXE
MSN6.EXE is the correct name for the MSN explorer program so that seems ok and I can't find anything screaming out that it is often a malicious program so.....

I would ignore the error.
