The woman leading the Golf on BBC TV at the moment is called Catriona Matthew. All the commentators leave the 'O' out of her name and call her Catrina. The sequal to R.L. Stephenson's novel 'Kidnapped' is 'Catriona' which I've always pronounced as it's written. was I wrong,please ?

Every single person I have known with the name as well as everyone I've heard say the name has pronounced it as catreena...and I'm a Scot and an oldster.
However, as others claim above, people are, of course, free to pronounce their names however they will. For example, my partner once told me of a pupil of hers who insisted her name was See-ob-han!

Thanks Quizmonster and to you brionon I'd like to say I hope it's ok with you I took some liberties with your thread in your absence. Also, to everyone else on the thread, my intention was not - as it may have seemed - to say who's right and who's wrong. The thing is, the question interests me as I have once used the name in a rhyme and I saw my construction falling apart in front of my very eyes as I was reading some of the replies - so you see I really just wanted to "save" my rhyme...
