If i take out an insurance policy with protected no claims bonus and have a single claim within a year of taking it out, do the insurance company have a right not to add on a years no claims bonus? E.g Open the insurance with 4 yrs, have an accident, then at the end of it i still only have 4 yrs? shouldn't this be 5?

If they leave your NCB at 4 years even though you've had a claim then your NCB has been protected.
Does your insurer allow protected NCB after 4 years? I think 5 years is more common.
