I have full no claims bonus and have been driving for many years on my own insurance policy. I now have no need for a car and my insurance is due for renewal. I would like to know how I can keep that bonus when the policy expires if at all possible. I am also considering going on my husbands insurance as a named driver, would I then keep my no claims bonus because I was named on his insurance. Thank you

Yes, you should be able to transfer, you need the proof from your Insurance.
Your no-claims bonus will be valid for 2 years from when you close the policy. Being a named driver on your husband's policy does nor normally keep no NCD alive, but there may be exceptions. I believe Direct Line have some sort of deal on this.
The only other way is, at renewal time for your husband's policy he transfers ownership of the car to you. You then insure it, keeping your NCD. At next renewal you transfer the car back to him and he insures it etc.
We planned to do that when we got rid of one car but decided it was too much hassle. If you do come to get your own car again most companies will start you off with 2 years' NCD, so it's not too bad.
