Of course everyone is different, but do the elderly need more sleep or less sleep than younger people?

MWB...interesting question to which I do not have a definitive answer.

However, it depends upon what sort of sleep pattern they had before they became "elderly" and I am not so sure that in terms of hours, it remains the same.

O.K they probably sleep less at night, but most elderly have a "kip" during the day that makes up for the nightime decrease.
My boyfriends granny goes to bed at 1am - 2am each night and gets up early. However the minute she sits down to eat she falls asleep into her food!

Thanks, sqad.

It's just I read somewhere, years ago now, that the elderly need more or less sleep - I can't remember which!
The general concensus is that they need less sleep, but it does depend on the individual.
isn't the answer .... yes they do
I wouldn't say they need more or less than anyone else, and it would depend on how active they are and whether they work or not. How old is elderly?
Oh dear.....
pasta calculates late nights on AB....what was it-4am the other night.......so maybe 5 hours at the most...a KIP during the day...a KIP after work.....bloody hell...PLEASE not the care home!!!!
