Is there any way I can get hold of a recent edition of MS Office without paying 300 or whatever it costs brand new?

You could break the law and buy/copy a pirate version.
Or you could buy an old pc with it on.
Are you a student, or a teacher? Sometimes discounts can be found for some of these groups.
http://www.download.com/3001-2250-10313328.html?idl=n this is a good site for dodgy peer 2 peer file sharin....bear share or edonkey the best....u can get both from this site
http://www.bearshare.com/ dont think the above does bearshare so heres yor link
the limewire site has a good copy on it at the moment
You can get Open Office for free which is designed to closely resemble MS Office and perform all the same functions. Or, as mentioned you could buy it or break the law and download it.

If you need more suggestions on where to download a copy, download BitComet then use IsoHunt to get hold of it.

As stevie21 suggested, OpenOffice might be a good alternative. Supposed to be a good free alternative. Open source is your friend.
as far as i am aware, buying from ebay is not illegal and is most certainly cheaper than the average highstreet shop. imo that's your best bet.
Shhhhh, you didn't hear this from me but I heard you can go to Ares and under the software catagory you can find one.Give it a try.
